- Director of Works & Estate (CONTEDISS 15)
By virtue of the Revised Schemes of Service for NBTE, Polytechnics and other similar Tertiary Institutions of 2013, the Director of Works & Estate is a Senior Management Officer of the Polytechnic and he/she is responsible to the Rector for:
- Exercising control in the Department; formulating divisional strategies to achieve the institutional goals;
- Planning and controlling the technical activities of the Works & Estate Services of the Polytechnic;
- Advising the Rector on the acquisition, operation and maintenance of all Polytechnic assets as the case may be;
- Preparing the Department’s budget and exercising budgetary controls;
- Keeping an inventory of all vehicles, their maintenance, security and up-keep;
- Ensuring cordial relationship between the Polytechnic and Contractors, Consultants, etc.;
- Furthermore, the candidate must be in good health;
- Performing other duties as may be assigned by the Rector.
THE PERSON
Applicants for the post of the Polytechnic Director of Works & Estate must be candidates with vision, proven professional distinction, managerial ability, integrity and transparency in private and public life, who should be able to provide the Management and Council of the Polytechnic with requisite professional skills/competence and appropriate advice on the administration of the Polytechnic Works & Estate Services Department.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- The Candidate must possess a B.Sc. Degree in Civil Engineering, Building, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering or any other relevant Degree from a recognized Institution with a minimum of 2nd Class Lower Division plus NYSC Discharge Certificate or evidence of Exemption, SSCE/NECO/WASC/GCE O/L Credit in 5 subjects including Mathematics and English Language subjects is compulsory;
- The possession of Post-graduate Degree will be an added advantage;
- The Candidate must possess professionally recognized Certificate with current practicing license as well as not less than twenty (20) years post qualification experience;
- In addition, the Candidates must have at least ten (10) years of relevant experience in a Senior Management position;
- Candidate must be registered with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering (COREN) or Quantity Surveying Regulation Board of Nigeria (QSRBN) or Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria (CORBON), or any other related discipline and must be computer literate with a working knowledge of relevant packages;
- The successful candidate shall hold office for a period of five (5) years of one tenure, from the date of appointment by the Governing Council of the Polytechnic, and should not be more than fifty-five (55) years old at the point of appointment.
- SENIOR ENGINEER (CONTEDISS 11)
In all, the Senior Engineer shall be responsible to the Director of Works and Estate of the Polytechnic for the day to day administration of the Polytechnic’s Department of Works and Estate. He/She shall perform the following duties:
Supervising the duties of a number of subordinate Staff;
- Assisting in testing, inspecting and certifying engineering projects;
- Assisting in the formulation and execution of engineering training programmes.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCES
Candidates must possess a registerable Engineering discipline, Bachelor’s Degree (minimum of Second Class Lower Division) in the relevant Engineering discipline with at least six (6) years post-qualification cognate experience or Masters Degree in Engineering plus at least 3 years cognate experience and NYSC discharge certificate.
- ARCHITECT II (CONTEDISS 08)
The Architect II of the Polytechnic shall be responsible to the Director of Physical Planning of the Polytechnic for the day to day administration of the Polytechnic’s Physical Planning Department. He/She shall carry out assigned architectural duties in the Polytechnic.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCES
- Candidates must possess any of the following or equivalent qualifications with the Architectural Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON);
- A good Bachelor of Science Degree (minimum of Second Class Lower Division) in Architecture from a recognized University with at least four (4) years post-qualification cognate experience;
- A Pass in the Final I Examination of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA);
- A Pass in the Final I Examination of the Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA). A Masters Degree in Architecture from Institution of Architecture or the Royal Institute of Architect is an added advantage.
- BUILDER II (CONTEDISS 08)
The candidate for the post of a Builder II must be a person of good professional skills. He/She reports to the Polytechnic’s Director of Physical Planning for the day to day administration of the Department of Physical Planning.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCES
The candidates for the post of Builder II of the Polytechnic, must possess any of the following qualifications registrable with the Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria (CORBON):
- A good Bachelor’s Degree (minimum of Second Class Lower Division) in Building or Building Technology from a recognized University;
- A good pass in the Final Examination II of the Nigeria Institute of Building (NIOB);
- A good pass in the Final Part II Examination of the Chartered Institute of Builders of England (CIBE);
- A Master of Science Degree in Building from a recognized University, is an added advantage.
- CIVIL/STRUCTURAL II (CONTEDISS 08)
The Civil/Structural Engineer shall be responsible to the Director of Works & Estate Department of the Polytechnic.
- He/She will be responsible for civil and structural design and engineering;
- Develop narrative specifications that defines the technical requirements to be adopted by the Institution;
- Must have extensive experience in engineering with concrete and steel structure;
- Must have experience with industrial projects like plants and related facilities;
- Should be able to develop structural design calculation reports;
- Ability to liaise with geotechnical Engineers to investigate ground conditions and assessment of results (soil samples and in-situ tests);
- Ability to ensure quality compliance on projects and incorporate HSE Criteria in the Civil/Structure.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCES
The qualifications, skills and experience of the candidate includes:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering;
- COREN registered and/or any other relevant certificates;
- Good knowledge of the use of various softwares such as Autocad, Mcirosoft Projects, Staad Pro Scale, Orion, etc.;
- 4 -7 years working experience;
- Knowledge of Industrial type of projects, plus NYSC Discharge Certificate or Exemption Certificate.
- QUANTITY SURVEYOR II (CONTEDISS 08)
The Quantity Surveyor II of the Polytechnic shall report to the Polytechnic’s Director of Physical Planning to:
- Carry out assigned quantity surveying duties on one or more major areas of the Institution;
- Perform other duties as may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCES
Candidates must possess:
- A good Bachelor’s Degree in Quantity Survey from a recognized University and a registered Quantity Surveyor with at least 3 – 6 years experience;
- A pass in the Final Examination of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors and
- A pass in the Final Examination of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors;
- Must be proficient in Computer usage;
- Possession of M.Sc. in Quantity Survey or accredited qualification in at least one other unrestricted construction industry proficiency or discipline, will be an added advantage.
- ESTATE SURVEYOR II (CONTEDISS 08)
The Estate Surveyor II of the Polytechnic shall report to the Director of Physical Planning of the Polytechnic for the day to day administration of the Department of Physical Planning. He/She shall carryout assigned estate surveying and management duties on all the properties of the Polytechnic.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCES
- The candidates must possess a good Bachelor’s Degree (minimum of 2nd Class Lower Division) in Estate Management plus NYSC Discharge Certificate and
- A successful track record of 3 -5 years experience;
- Excellent internal and external communication skills;
- Membership of Nigeria Institute of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV) is an added advantage;
- Competency applicable; understanding of property management, agency and valuation.
- HIGHER TECHNICAL OFFICER (BUILDING) (CONTEDISS 08)
The Candidates for Higher Technical Officer shall be responsible to a Superior officer in the general supervision of works and maintenance services.
He/She ensures the safety of tools/plants in the Works Department and also takes charge of specific aspect of a project.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCES
- The candidates must possess a recognized HND/HNC Credit level in the relevant field (Building) plus NYSC discharge Certificate OR by promotion of a confirmed and suitable Technical Officer with at least three (3) years satisfactory service record on that grade.
- He/She must possess membership of relevant professional Bodies.

The remuneration and benefits are as applicable in the Nigerian Polytechnic System.
