The School of Business Studies as the pioneer Schools in Delta State Polytechnic. Ogwashi-Uku, presently comprises of eight Departments: Accountancy, Business Administration and Management, Mass Communication, Office Technology and Management, Human Resource Management (HND) Programme, Production Operations Management (HND) Programme, Banking and Finance (ND) Programme and Marketing (ND) Programme. The Dean, as Head of the School, exercises general superintendence over academic and administrative affairs of the School of Business Studies. He functions effectively with a core of Department Heads, academic staff and administrative prowess of non-teaching staff.
In accordance with the cooperation and relationship that makes Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku truly integrative and concerned about producing all round intellectuals, the School also relies on the cooperation of other relevant Schools/Departments for lectures outside its peculiar scope as mandatorily required by the National Board of Technical Education (NBTE). Similarly, as the need arises, the School also offers lectures across board to other Schools/Departments
Functional education as an instrument of nation development aims at integrating individual goal with that of the society. To effectively accomplish this aim and objectives, the school is poised to achieve the following:
- To transmit a body of knowledge and a command of adequate technical business skills and techniques.
- To increase the students capacity to learn and to communicate effectively with others.
- To continue the search and expand the scope of application of Accounting, Business Administration, Office Technology and Management, Production Operations Management, Human Resource Management, Banking and Finance, Mass Communication and Marketing disciplines in order to promote and enhance National Economic Development.
- To produce competent diploma holders who should be potential employers of labour.
- To inculcate in our students the burning desire of sound education, hard work and honest service to humanity.
- To promote and encourage scholarship and community service.
- To promote and encourage the ideals of Polytechnic Education through Students Industrial Work Experience.
- To give exposure to related professional studies.
The philosophy of the School of Business Studies is complementary to the overall philosophy of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku. This is basically because no component School would propound a philosophy different from the general philosophy of this Polytechnic. This implies that we have to be guided by the motto of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, viz ‘’Creativity for Development’’.
We are concerned in inculcating into our students a sense of creativity and self reliance’ to foster the worth and development of the individual and the society by means of functional and broad based education. Therefore, the Higher National Diploma Programmes in the School Of Business Studies are aimed at producing graduates who can perform a range of functions in the various fields of Business Studies. The School’s philosophy if further anchored on inculcating the appropriate attitudes, professional skills and ethics to the students in order to produce the manpower that can be self-employed.
