The Students’ Union Government (SUG) and the National Association of Delta State Students (NADESSTU) elections for the 2026/2027 Academic Session at Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku (DSPG) have successfully concluded, ushering in a new crop of student leaders.
The online election, held on Saturday, 18th July, 2026, was peaceful, transparent, credible, and highly competitive, reflecting the institution’s commitment to democratic values and excellence in student leadership.
The Chief Electoral Officer and Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. I. K. Asielue, officially declared the results and congratulated all contestants for their maturity, sportsmanship, and commitment to a peaceful electoral process. He also commended the student body for maintaining law and order before, during, and after the election.

President: Comrade Chukwuemeke Ewere Wisdom — 790 votes
Vice President I: Comrade Nnazoba Christiana Chineye — 1,121 votes
Director of Transport: Comrade Ezeadiefe Kelvin Ifeanyi — 927 votes
Director of Welfare: Comrade Nosasu Favour Divine — 877 votes
Public Relations Officer: Comrade Gold Prosper Chijioke — 1,256 votes
NADESSTU ELECTION
President: Comrade Efeunu Joseph — 1,162 votes
Also present at the Institution’s ICT Unit, where the election was monitored, was a high-powered delegation led by the Ag. Rector, Dr. Mrs. Erere Joy Anho. In her remarks, she expressed satisfaction that she arrived to find a completely peaceful environment, free of tension. She congratulated the newly elected executives and observed that while every election produces both winners and losers, everyone who was screened and qualified to contest was already a winner.
Dr. Anho described the election as seamless, transparent, and one of the most credible student elections she has witnessed. She commended the electronic voting process, noting that the results were visible in real time as votes were cast. She recommended the system to other institutions seeking a free, fair, and credible electoral process.
She emphasized the need for unity, cooperation, and inclusive leadership, encouraging both the elected executives and other contestants to work together in building a stronger Students’ Union and a more vibrant Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku. Drawing from her experience as Acting Rector, she stressed that no leader succeeds alone and urged the new executives to carry their fellow contestants and teammates along. She further charged the new student leaders to prioritize students’ welfare and collaborate closely with the institution’s management in promoting peace on campus. She also reaffirmed the need for DSPG to sustain its reputation for excellence, transparency, integrity, and academic distinction.
The Ag. Deputy Rector, Dr. Nelson Chika Ogonwa, also delivered brief remarks, describing the election as free, fair, credible, and devoid of rancour. He congratulated the successful candidates and encouraged those who were unsuccessful to accept the outcome in good faith, reminding them that while only one person emerges victorious in an election, every experience presents another opportunity for growth and future success.
The Ag. Rector further expressed appreciation to members of staff, the Electoral Committee, ICT personnel, security agencies, and students whose dedication and cooperation contributed to the successful conduct of the election. She particularly commended the ICT Unit for its professionalism, technical expertise, and unwavering commitment throughout the exercise.
Present during the election were the Dean of Student Affairs, the Student Affairs Officer (SAO), the Chief Internal Auditor, staff of the Student Affairs Division, thirteen (13) accredited agents representing various candidates, six (6) independent observers, a representative of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), representatives of the National Female Students Association of Nigeria (NFSAN), DSPG Alumni officials, the outgoing SUG and NADESSTU Presidents, three Emeritus Executives of SUG and NADESSTU, security personnel from the Department of State Services (DSS), officers of the Nigeria Police Force, and members of the DSPG Media Team.
The presence of these stakeholders further strengthened the transparency, credibility, and hitch-free conduct of the election.
